Escaleras vintage...Vintage ladders.

Es sorprendente observar como objetos procedentes de oficios, predestinados desde su nacimiento a ser funcionales sin mas, se transforman por obra y gracia del paso del tiempo, las modas y los decoradores en objetos de culto.
Es el caso de las escaleras de mano. Antiguas escaleras pertenecientes a pintores, electricistas o albañiles, desgastadas, raspadas y rozadas por el uso y las inclemencias del tiempo, adquieren una nueva vida en los rincones mas insospechados. Lo de menos es utilizarlas para subir, y bajar.

It is rather surprising to notice how industrial objects originally design to be nothing more than functional can be transformed as time goes by and trends change in cult objects for decorators.

This is the case with ladders. Old painter’s ones, or electrician’s or builder’s, worn and torn by time and use, get a new life in the most unexpected corners and not precisely to go up and down…

In the bathroom, as a towel rack, as a bookcase, as a bed head, bed side table, o just leaning on the wall. The possibilities are infinite.

Maniquies.............Mannequins

 Hay dos cosas a las que no me puedo resistir por mas que lo intente. Son mi talón de Aquiles.

 Una de ellas es un buen restaurante. Jamás, jamás te diré que no a ese plan.

Y la otra es un brocante, rastro, mercadillo de segunda mano o almacén de derribo. Adoro perderme entre los puestos, toqueteando (cuando se puede) todos y cada uno de los objetos que esperan una segunda oportunidad de brillar de nuevo.

Muebles con historia, telas antiguas, relojes, cuadros, espejos....la lista es infinita.

Pero sin duda uno de los objetos que me vienen a la cabeza cuando pienso en un brocante son los maniquíes antiguos, de cualquier tamaño, color, material. son siempre un complemento ideal en cualquier rincón o sobre cualquier mueble.

No lo dudes, si visitas algún mercadillo o rastro y ves uno, agárralo por la cintura y para tu casa.

There are two things in the world I cannot resist, no matter how much I try, they are my weaknesses: one of them is a good restaurant, I can never, never say no to that.

The other one is a fair, second hand market, or close out sales. I love to get lost among the stalls, touching (if allowed) each and everyone of the objects that are laying there waiting for a second chance to shine again in a home.

Furniture with history, old fabrics, clocks and watches, pictures, mirrors… the list is endless.

However, beyond doubt one of the things that comes to my mind when I think of a fair is mannequins of any size, colour, material… They are always an ideal accessory in any corner of the house or on a piece of furniture.

So, don’t hesitate, if you visit a market and see one, just grab it by the waist and take it home.

Tendencias II, vintage mediados de siglo.

Siguiendo con las tendencias en brocantes, ferias vintage y almonedas, nos pararemos en la segunda gran opción, el vintage de los años 40, 50 y 60.

 Con el paso al siglo XXI, hemos empezado a buscar compulsivamente piezas de mediados del anterior. De pronto todos los escaparates y portadas de revistas se llenan con muebles, peinados, ropa y objetos de aquellos años. Estamos asistiendo a un renacer del glamour, y la estética retro. Colores pastel, lineas rectas y limpias, maderas claras. Estética escandinava, retro Dinner Americano,. Art Deco frances....

Es muy curioso como los diseños actuales se basan cuando no copian descaradamente, los de mediados del siglo XX, y nos los venden como último grito. Hay diseños que tienen casi 100 años y siguen tan modernos y rompedores como el día que fueron diseñados.

Un consejo, para no transformar tu casa en un decorado de "El clan de los Brady"., apuesta por piezas grandes y dales espacio, no amontones miles de objetos retro sobre un mueble, dale importancia a un par de piezas.

Following with the trends in garage sales, markets, fairs, and Antique shops we will stop and look at the second big option: vintage from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.

After turning into the XXI century we have started to search compulsively for pieces from the last century. Suddenly all the windows and magazine covers are full of furniture, hair styles, clothing and objects from those times. We are watching a revival of glamour and retro style. Pastel colours, clean and straight lines, light coloured wood… The Scandinavian style, American dinner, Art Decó…

It is very interesting to notice how today’s designs are inspired by on if not boldly copied from designs created in the mid XX century, and they are sold as the coolest thing. Some designs have almost 100 years old but they are still as modern and ground breaking as they were when they were created.

Let me give you a piece of advice. If you don’t want to turn your house into the tv set of “The Brady bunch” , choose bigger pieces of furniture, and give them some space, forget about piling a thousand retro objects on your furniture and just give precedence to a couple of pieces.

Tendencias I, estilo industrial.......TRENDS I: Industrial style..

Este fin de semana hemos podido asistir a la feria del desembalaje en Bilbao. Como cada año, el recinto ferial se llenó de los objetos mas variopintos, eso si, con mas de 50 años de antigüedad.

Es casi una obligación de todo decorador visitar este tipo de eventos, ademas de para buscar piezas, para ver tendencias.

Estilo industrial. 
  Los muebles de oficio siempre han sido muy valorados por los decoradores y/o entusiastas de las piezas únicas, sinfonieres de persiana, muebles de imprenta etc...pero desde hace algún tiempo vienen pegando con  fuerza los muebles mas industriales, mesas y sillas de hierro, estanterías metálicas, focos industriales, letras de carteles, taquillas....en general todo lo que huela a hierro y a oxido es muy apreciados por los gurus de la decoración.

This last weekend we went to an antique fair in Bilbao. Like every year the venue was filled with the most diverse objects, though all of them had to be at least 50 years old.
It is almost mandatory for any interior designer to pay a visit to this kind of events, not only to look for décor elements but to see what the latest trends are.
Industrial design
Industrial furniture has always been highly valued by interior designers and/or fans of unique pieces such as roll top cabinets, print services furniture, etc… For some time now the strongest trend is the hardware furniture: iron tables and chairs, metallic shelves, industrial lighting, business sign letters, lockers… As a rule any item smelling of iron and rust is highly esteemed by interior design gurus.

Union Jack

Poco a poco parece que el invierno se aleja y la primavera comienza a dejarse ver. El sol, asoma e incluso calienta y de paso anima a pasear y a dejarse caer por algún que otro escaparate para ver "lo nuevo".

Pues bien, esta primavera la tendencia absoluta es la Union Jack , en todas sus versiones, en camisetas, sleepers, bolsos, pañuelos, botas, vestidos....me alegro porque me encanta todo lo "british". Gran Bretaña es sin duda la cuna de lo sorprendente, la moda puede venir de París (o no),  pero las tendencias mas rompedoras siempre vienen de las islas.

También en muebles, cojines, sofás, alfombras....No te resistas, si quieres que tu casa destaque, debes colocar algo con ella.

Slowly winter is leaving and one can begin to feel spring in the air. The sun is out more often and you can notice its warmth, and then you feel like going for a walk and do some window shopping to see what’s new.

So, this spring the absolute trend is the Union Jack, in every possible shape and size: t-shirts, shoes, boots, handbags, shawls, dresses… I am delighted because I love anything British. The UK is the cradle of everything surprising. Fashion might come from Paris but the most shocking and original trends always come from the Isles.

Furniture, cushions, sofas, rugs… Just don’t resist the temptation, if you want your house to stand out from the others you must have a Union Jack in it.
